Alberto completed his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the University of Arizona under the guidance of Dr.Janek Wehr. Currently, he is a postdoc at La Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera (Local PI Dr.Antonio Falcó) and Universitat Politècnica de València (Local PI Dr.Miguel Ángel García March). Alberto´s interest lie primarily in Open Quantum Systems, Quantum Information and Computation, Quantum Optics, Quantum Foundations, Quantum Many-Body Physics, Operator Theory and Stochastic Processes; more recently interest in Riemannian Geometry has emerged. While in Valencia, Alberto has worked on projects spanning problems such as developing geometric measures of complexity for quantum channels, tackling the Measurment-Equilibration hypothesis for the continuous variables setting and studying adaptive Imaginary Time Evolution algorithms for ground state deduction from a geometric point of view.
In this talk, we will present some recent developments in the field of Quantum Foundations. Namely, we will explore the relatively novel theory of Spectrum Broadcast Structures (SBS) which functions as a formalization/extension of the ideas presented within the framework of Quantum Darwinism introduced by Wojciech Hubert Zurek.
SBS states are multipartite quantum states, encoding an operational notion of objectivity and exhibiting a more generic form of decoherence. We study asymptotic convergence to such SBS states in the case of a central systems interacting with N environments via von Neumann-type measurement interac- tions, ubiquitous in the theory of open quantum systems. This convergence to an SBS will be interpreted as a dynamical convergence to an objective state. We will provide treatment of the case where the underlying Hilbert space is finite dimensional but shall give special focus to the case where the system is modeled by an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space and the operators associated with the system in the Hamiltonian have purely continuous spectrum. Such a setup yields mathematical complications that have hitherto not been addressed in the theory of SBS.
In this talk I will assume no previous knowledge on the subjects to be dis- cussed. I shall begin by introducing Quantum Darwinisms and highlighting some flaws. I will then present the notion of an SBS and motivate why it over- comes the shortcomings of the Quantum Darwinism framework. I will proceed and conclude with some technical results that aid in studying converge to SBS whilst presenting some of the mathematical challenges of studying convergence to SBS a.k.a. dynamical emergence of objectivity.
