This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to open quantum systems, focusing on the theoretical foundations and practical implications of quantum systems interacting with their environments. Topics include the density matrix formalism, quantum dynamical maps, master equations (with emphasis on the Lindblad form), non-Markovianity, and the mechanisms of decoherence and dissipation. Applications in quantum computing and thermodynamics are briefly discussed, and especial emphasis on quantum optics is given with one or two working examples. Given by Docente: Dr. Andreu Anglés-Castillo.
